Plans Revealed For The Gold Coast’s 12,000 Seat Arena
The Gold Coast City Council has unveiled plans for a world-class indoor entertainment and sports arena at Carey Park in Southport.
This Arena marks a significant step in the Gold Coast Master Plan, showcasing Southport’s potential as the city’s CBD. The arena is set across from the Broadwater Parklands and will feature state-of-the-art facilities to attract top international and national music acts, major sporting events, and family entertainment. It will be well-connected to transport networks, with a public plaza linked to Queen Street and a pedestrian bridge to the Parklands, integrating it into the Broadwater.
Projected benefits include:
- $1.5 billion in economic output over 10 years
- $700 million added to the economy over a decade
- Up to 740 full-time jobs Hosting up to 80 major events annually
- Boosting investment and the visitor economy in the CBD
- Rejuvenation accelerator for Southport CBD and Waterfront
- Support and attract local businesses
- Host some of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games sports and culture events

The National Basketball League (NBL) have publically announced their support for the potential new arena, posting the news to their website Novemebr 12th. NBL Chief Operating Officer Vince Crivelli has said ‘the prospect of a new venue further strengthened the league’s push for a team in the region’. He told News Corp ‘We are encouraged and supportive of the exciting progress made on a potential new arena on the Gold Coast. We have made no secret about our desire to establish a team in the region and, as with any expansion bid, a world-class venue is vitally important to any new NBL team’.
Following the close of Community Consultation on December 9th, the next step for the project team is the advocacy to state and federal Governments for support and any potential funding and analysis of community and business consultations.
